We all know very well about the need of sustainable consumption of water. There are many different ways we can be more conscious about the environment, one of the easiest being how we use water in our own homes everyday. Inefficient use of tap water is one of the main ways we manage to waste water unnecessarily and it’s extremely important to always pay more attention to it, but even with all the care in the world we sometimes end up failing at saving water by not being able to tell how much is really going down the drain. Being that only 3% of all water on earth is fresh, usable water needs to be used more wisely and technology may offer us the helping hand we need.

Three Asian designers, focused on product concepts, developed a faucet that can control the amount of water released according to the activity we are performing with each use. The Default Tap brings the concept of forcing us to adopt better habits regarding the use of water at home.
Implementing technology in a “simple” tap, these designers made it possible to program the amount of water required for each function. Using a touch screen panel installed on the top surface of the faucet, the user can chose between 6 different previously set outputs, according to their need. Different icons display the different tasks for which the water is needed and show common capacities of cups, glasses, and bottles.

Another very interesting option of this faucet is the ability to quickly set an exact amount of water to be used. For example, if you want to make a recipe that calls for exactly 50 ml of water, just select the option “50” on the touch screen panel and the tap will release that exact amount of water.
